What Might This Song Do to the Listener?

The narrator speaks as a collective voice, addressing every person ground down by systems built on greed and enforced by fear. The lyrics name starvation, exploitation, and the theft of labor as deliberate acts, then refuse to wait for saviors or heroes. What's demanded here is self-liberation on a global scale: the wretched of the earth standing upright together, reclaiming what was taken, and building something that belongs to everyone. The vision stretches past any single nation or grievance into a declaration that human beings deserve to share the earth equally.

If you've ever felt the weight of a rigged game pressing on your chest, these words hand you a reason to stop accepting it. The insistence that no one is coming to save you, that the work belongs to the people themselves, lands hard for anyone who has watched power consolidate and felt helpless against it. The call to shoot generals and make war on tyrants injects real violence into the blueprint, and that contaminates the solidarity with a willingness to kill for the cause. You either carry that contradiction or you set it down, but the lyrics don't let you pretend it isn't there.

Audience Vibe

The compass reads the lyrics. The Audience Vibe reads the people — the general place the audience thinks the compass should be pointing for this song, not a raw tally of votes. Two needles, one song; the gap between them is the data.

Do you think it should stay where it is, or be pushed further in one direction?

One vote per person per song per year. No single vote can move the needle far — it takes a crowd.

How the Audience Vibe is calculated

The needle is the compass score nudged by the crowd — never a raw tally. Every "push higher," "push lower," and "agree" vote is recombined into one position each time someone votes:

  • Direction comes from the split. Only the gap between higher and lower votes moves the needle. "Agree" votes pull it back toward the compass score.
  • It takes a crowd. Early votes move it gently — a handful shifts it only a point or two. The more lopsided the crowd, the further it goes.
  • It's capped. The audience can pull a song at most 15 points off the compass score, either direction. No pile-on can push it past that.

So a single "push lower" on a song with few votes moves the needle a little (often a point or two), not all the way down — and it can never run away.
