What Might This Song Do to the Listener?

An individual who plays One More on repeat develops a heightened valuation of ordinary time with a specific attachment figure. The material routes affection through a petition for additional duration, and with repetition the listener comes to appraise unremarkable contact as scarce. Urgency attaches to presence.

Sustained exposure produces an increased tolerance for the beloved's imperfections, since the stated wish is to change nothing. Anticipatory mourning accompanies the gain, and the individual rehearses a loss that has not occurred. Appreciation and dread arrive together.

What Might This Song Do to a Society?

A society that takes One More into common circulation raises the standing of small, private time between two people. Collective rehearsal of a petition for one additional day reframes ordinary domestic contact as a limited resource, and the accepted grounds for postponing it narrow. Presence acquires public value.

At the population level the pattern manifests as increased attendance to the aging and the ill, with visits treated as obligations of finite supply. Households allocate more of their discretionary time to relatives, and the social cost of absence rises. Anticipatory grief becomes a common civic register.

Audience Vibe

The compass reads the lyrics. The Audience Vibe reads the people — the general place the audience thinks the compass should be pointing for this song, not a raw tally of votes. Two needles, one song; the gap between them is the data.

Do you think it should stay where it is, or be pushed further in one direction?

One vote per person per song per year. No single vote can move the needle far — it takes a crowd.

How the Audience Vibe is calculated

The needle is the compass score nudged by the crowd — never a raw tally. Every "push higher," "push lower," and "agree" vote is recombined into one position each time someone votes:

  • Direction comes from the split. Only the gap between higher and lower votes moves the needle. "Agree" votes pull it back toward the compass score.
  • It takes a crowd. Early votes move it gently — a handful shifts it only a point or two. The more lopsided the crowd, the further it goes.
  • It's capped. The audience can pull a song at most 15 points off the compass score, either direction. No pile-on can push it past that.

So a single "push lower" on a song with few votes moves the needle a little (often a point or two), not all the way down — and it can never run away.
