What Might This Song Do to the Listener?

"Nunchucks" installs a worldview where staying numb is the baseline and everyone outside your circle is a threat or a mark. You take in a default where money answers to nobody and women exist to service you, with a weapon as the punctuation on any disagreement. Trust shrinks to figures and a couple of names.

What this hardens in you is contempt running on autopilot. Grief gets papered over with another cup instead of felt, and the line between a brag and a threat erodes until both feel like ordinary speech. Numbness stops being an escape and becomes the resting state.

What Might This Song Do to a Society?

"Nunchucks" hands a population a script where intoxication is the default setting and other people are either obstacles or prey. When millions run it, numbing becomes an aspiration rather than a warning, and status gets measured in cash and weapons while women register as service rather than company. People learn to keep the world at arm's length and a threat within reach.

A culture on this program grows fluent in menace and clumsy with grief. Pain gets buried under intoxication instead of mourned, and casual gun talk loses its weight until it sounds like weather. Bonds with people give way to bonds with money, and the capacity to trust anyone outside a tiny circle quietly wastes away.

Audience Vibe

The compass reads the lyrics. The Audience Vibe reads the people — the general place the audience thinks the compass should be pointing for this song, not a raw tally of votes. Two needles, one song; the gap between them is the data.

Do you think it should stay where it is, or be pushed further in one direction?

One vote per person per song per year. No single vote can move the needle far — it takes a crowd.

How the Audience Vibe is calculated

The needle is the compass score nudged by the crowd — never a raw tally. Every "push higher," "push lower," and "agree" vote is recombined into one position each time someone votes:

  • Direction comes from the split. Only the gap between higher and lower votes moves the needle. "Agree" votes pull it back toward the compass score.
  • It takes a crowd. Early votes move it gently — a handful shifts it only a point or two. The more lopsided the crowd, the further it goes.
  • It's capped. The audience can pull a song at most 15 points off the compass score, either direction. No pile-on can push it past that.

So a single "push lower" on a song with few votes moves the needle a little (often a point or two), not all the way down — and it can never run away.
