What Might This Song Do to the Listener?

An individual who plays Neverland on repeat becomes attentive to what household violence does inside a child. The song reports a boy at a door watching his father strike his mother, then rendering the whole situation in crayon, exits and retaliations alike, so the listener holds terror and play as one continuous act. Imagination presents itself as survival equipment.

Repeated exposure raises sensitivity to violence conducted at home. The individual grows readier to recognise the craft a frightened child makes of it, and to recognise their own version where they lived one. Recognition is what the material leaves behind.

What Might This Song Do to a Society?

A society that takes Neverland into common circulation grows more literate in what children carry out of violent homes. Communal rehearsal of a boy's testimony, delivered in his own materials of pencil, scissors and glue, moves domestic violence out of private euphemism and into ordinary account, and a child's perspective acquires standing as evidence. Households become describable from the inside.

At the population level the pattern manifests as recognition paired with a raised tolerance for hearing it: people identify the pattern in families near them and discuss it in plain terms. The remedy stays with whoever is listening, so recognition accumulates ahead of intervention. The aggregate effect is a population able to name what it has learned to see.

Audience Vibe

The compass reads the lyrics. The Audience Vibe reads the people — the general place the audience thinks the compass should be pointing for this song, not a raw tally of votes. Two needles, one song; the gap between them is the data.

One vote per person per song per year. No single vote can move the needle far — it takes a crowd.

How the Audience Vibe is calculated

The needle is the compass score nudged by the crowd — never a raw tally. Every "push higher," "push lower," and "agree" vote is recombined into one position each time someone votes:

  • Direction comes from the split. Only the gap between higher and lower votes moves the needle. "Agree" votes pull it back toward the compass score.
  • It takes a crowd. Early votes move it gently — a handful shifts it only a point or two. The more lopsided the crowd, the further it goes.
  • It's capped. The audience can pull a song at most 15 points off the compass score, either direction. No pile-on can push it past that.

So a single "push lower" on a song with few votes moves the needle a little (often a point or two), not all the way down — and it can never run away.
