What is this song about?

Two voices name the colors of the rainbow in order and repeat their delight in it, with a bridge tracing clouds and rain giving way to color and sun.

What Might This Song Do to the Listener?

An individual who plays I Love a Rainbow on repeat settles into an uncomplicated pleasure at an ordinary sight. The material supplies an ordered sequence of colors and a stated affection for the thing they compose, and repetition fixes the sequence in memory alongside the pleasure attached to it. Attention narrows to something simple and near.

Calm follows. The threshold for stimulation drops in the individual, and small phenomena sustain interest longer. In a young listener the naming task and the affection arrive together, so the vocabulary is acquired inside a pleasant state.

What Might This Song Do to a Society?

A society that takes I Love a Rainbow into common circulation acquires a shared vocabulary for ordinary natural pleasure. Communal repetition of a color sequence paired with stated affection teaches the terms and the delight in one motion, and the youngest members acquire both from the same source. Naming becomes an act of pleasure.

At the population level, adults and children arrive at a common reference for a small shared sight. Cross-generational singing of one short phrase strengthens ordinary contact between them. The aggregate effect is a widely held pleasure that costs nothing to take up.

Audience Vibe

The compass reads the lyrics. The Audience Vibe reads the people — the general place the audience thinks the compass should be pointing for this song, not a raw tally of votes. Two needles, one song; the gap between them is the data.

One vote per person per song per year. No single vote can move the needle far — it takes a crowd.

How the Audience Vibe is calculated

The needle is the compass score nudged by the crowd — never a raw tally. Every "push higher," "push lower," and "agree" vote is recombined into one position each time someone votes:

  • Direction comes from the split. Only the gap between higher and lower votes moves the needle. "Agree" votes pull it back toward the compass score.
  • It takes a crowd. Early votes move it gently — a handful shifts it only a point or two. The more lopsided the crowd, the further it goes.
  • It's capped. The audience can pull a song at most 15 points off the compass score, either direction. No pile-on can push it past that.

So a single "push lower" on a song with few votes moves the needle a little (often a point or two), not all the way down — and it can never run away.
