What Might This Song Do to the Listener?

An individual who plays Diva on repeat develops a habit of valuing the self by visibility and purchase. The material equates recognition, designer goods, and sexual command with personal rank, and repetition teaches the listener to treat the attention of strangers as confirmation of worth. Display becomes the measure.

The presentation is one of appetite that expects compliance. Continued exposure narrows interest in a partner to what they will perform, and peers register mainly as inferiors to be waved off. Capacity for plain regard toward another person diminishes.

What Might This Song Do to a Society?

A society that circulates Diva widely comes to grade its members by visibility and purchase. Communal repetition of a boast joining designer spending, public recognition, and an instruction that a woman perform turns display into the accepted proof of standing, and contempt aimed at less prosperous men becomes ordinary speech. Consumption stands in for character.

At the population level the pattern manifests as intensified status spending among the people with the least to spend. Women appear in public life as performers awaiting instruction, and partnership loses its footing against the pull of the room. Communities take on the manners of an audience.

Audience Vibe

The compass reads the lyrics. The Audience Vibe reads the people — the general place the audience thinks the compass should be pointing for this song, not a raw tally of votes. Two needles, one song; the gap between them is the data.

Do you think it should stay where it is, or be pushed further in one direction?

One vote per person per song per year. No single vote can move the needle far — it takes a crowd.

How the Audience Vibe is calculated

The needle is the compass score nudged by the crowd — never a raw tally. Every "push higher," "push lower," and "agree" vote is recombined into one position each time someone votes:

  • Direction comes from the split. Only the gap between higher and lower votes moves the needle. "Agree" votes pull it back toward the compass score.
  • It takes a crowd. Early votes move it gently — a handful shifts it only a point or two. The more lopsided the crowd, the further it goes.
  • It's capped. The audience can pull a song at most 15 points off the compass score, either direction. No pile-on can push it past that.

So a single "push lower" on a song with few votes moves the needle a little (often a point or two), not all the way down — and it can never run away.
