What Might This Song Do to the Listener?

The narrator looks back at being young, being in love, and dancing until the world outside stopped mattering. Everything here lives in the past tense: the old gold Chevy, the record machine, Susie going wild to the music. There's no complication, no betrayal, no lesson learned. It's pure recall, and the recall is warm. The biggest emotional claim is that those days are gone and nothing else has felt the same since.

You hear this and you remember whatever your version of that was. A parking lot, a basement, a person whose name still carries a specific weight. The nostalgia is so uncomplicated it either unlocks something genuine in you or slides right past because it never asks you to sit with loss for long. If you've ever missed a time more than a person, these words know exactly what that feels like. If you need your memories to carry more weight than sweetness, there's nothing here to hold onto.

Do you think it should stay where it is, or be pushed further in one direction?

One vote per person per song per year. No single vote can move the needle far — it takes a crowd.

How the Audience Vibe is calculated

The needle is the compass degree nudged by the crowd, never a raw tally. Every "push higher," "push lower," and "agree" vote is recombined into one position each time someone votes:

  • Direction comes from the split. Only the gap between higher and lower votes moves the needle. "Agree" votes pull it back toward the compass degree.
  • It takes a crowd. Early votes move it gently — a handful shifts it only a point or two. The more lopsided the crowd, the further it goes.
  • It's capped. The audience can pull a song at most 15 points off the compass degree, either direction. No pile-on can push it past that.

So a single "push lower" on a song with few votes moves the needle a little (often a point or two), not all the way down — and it can never run away.
