What is this song about?

Wealth as proof of a poverty outrun: diamonds, a vintage watch and limitless bets, powder and bottles as the good life, a submachine gun kept close for whoever comes near

What Might This Song Do to the Listener?

An individual who plays CR7 on repeat begins scoring their own progress by what they can display. The song sets diamonds, a rare watch and unlimited betting as the evidence of a life corrected, and repetition transfers that accounting onto the listener's own circumstances. Worth becomes a matter of display.

Sustained exposure narrows the field of trust. The individual grows readier to treat another's regard as envy and to keep a guard up in ordinary company, while intoxication registers as the reward for having arrived. Standing is measured in what can be shown.

What Might This Song Do to a Society?

A society that takes CR7 into common circulation ranks its members by visible acquisition. Communal repetition of the come-up story establishes display as the accepted proof that hardship has been outrun, and chemical indulgence circulates as the reward attached to arrival. Suspicion becomes ordinary manners.

At the population level, mutual trust between neighbours contracts as each interprets another's interest as envy. Consumption accelerates among those with the least to spend, and households accept weapons in daily life as ordinary prudence. Status is settled by what can be shown.

Audience Vibe

The compass reads the lyrics. The Audience Vibe reads the people — the general place the audience thinks the compass should be pointing for this song, not a raw tally of votes. Two needles, one song; the gap between them is the data.

Do you think it should stay where it is, or be pushed further in one direction?

One vote per person per song per year. No single vote can move the needle far — it takes a crowd.

How the Audience Vibe is calculated

The needle is the compass score nudged by the crowd — never a raw tally. Every "push higher," "push lower," and "agree" vote is recombined into one position each time someone votes:

  • Direction comes from the split. Only the gap between higher and lower votes moves the needle. "Agree" votes pull it back toward the compass score.
  • It takes a crowd. Early votes move it gently — a handful shifts it only a point or two. The more lopsided the crowd, the further it goes.
  • It's capped. The audience can pull a song at most 15 points off the compass score, either direction. No pile-on can push it past that.

So a single "push lower" on a song with few votes moves the needle a little (often a point or two), not all the way down — and it can never run away.
