What Might This Song Do to the Listener?

An individual who plays big feelings on repeat develops an inflated estimate of their own erotic leverage. The material treats the reaction produced in a partner as evidence of personal worth and pairs that claim with a preemptive dismissal of criticism, so the listener comes to measure intimacy by the response it extracts. Self-regard attaches to performance.

The presentation is one of diminished curiosity about a partner's interior life. Attention shifts toward the reaction a partner displays, and reciprocity narrows to what can be produced on demand. Scrutiny of one's own conduct grows easier to wave off.

What Might This Song Do to a Society?

A society that circulates big feelings widely comes to rate sexual capability as a measure of personal standing. Repeated communal performance of a boast about the effect one body produces in another turns that effect into a public credential, and a shrug at criticism travels alongside it. Judgment of conduct loses purchase.

At the population level, intimate life acquires a competitive character, with standing accruing to whoever can demonstrate the strongest reaction in a partner. Emotional disclosure becomes a trophy belonging to whoever elicited it, and care is spoken of as leverage. People grow more practiced at deflecting appraisal of their behavior.

Audience Vibe

The compass reads the lyrics. The Audience Vibe reads the people — the general place the audience thinks the compass should be pointing for this song, not a raw tally of votes. Two needles, one song; the gap between them is the data.

Do you think it should stay where it is, or be pushed further in one direction?

One vote per person per song per year. No single vote can move the needle far — it takes a crowd.

How the Audience Vibe is calculated

The needle is the compass score nudged by the crowd — never a raw tally. Every "push higher," "push lower," and "agree" vote is recombined into one position each time someone votes:

  • Direction comes from the split. Only the gap between higher and lower votes moves the needle. "Agree" votes pull it back toward the compass score.
  • It takes a crowd. Early votes move it gently — a handful shifts it only a point or two. The more lopsided the crowd, the further it goes.
  • It's capped. The audience can pull a song at most 15 points off the compass score, either direction. No pile-on can push it past that.

So a single "push lower" on a song with few votes moves the needle a little (often a point or two), not all the way down — and it can never run away.
